In a public statement circulated by the Ministry of Higher Education, universities have announced the commencement of this year's general admission process.
The Ministry urged all students with a South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education to apply for university admission at one of the national centres from 22/3 to 6/4. These centres will be opened in Juba, Wau, Yambio, Bor, Aweil, Torit and Rumbek for a 2 week period.
The centres will reportedly close at 3:00pm on 6/4, after which time no applications will be permitted. From then, the details of all candidates must be forwarded to the Directorate of Admissions within 4 days.
There are currently 6 public universities in South Sudan, spread equally across the country. The oldest, University of Juba, was opened in 1977. The newest, University of Northern Bahr El-Ghazal, opened its doors in October 2011.
Universities have been at the centre of recent disputes over South Sudan's lockdown and its effect on education policy. At present, it appears higher education will continue as usual. Despite this, the public statement from the Ministry urges all applicants to abide by the National COVID Taskforce's preventative measures.
