Ramadan football tournament hosted in Wau

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Mohammed Ali Goni, has organised and put on one of South Sudan's first Ramadan football tournaments in Wau.


With matches played after dark, the tournament provided an ideal way for Muslims in the state to play sport and continue competitive football despite their commitment to fasting during the day.

The competition saw a local youth teams competing in a series of friendly matches. Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal, Sarah Cleto Rial, has praised the tournament, commending the Ali Goni's organisation and recognising the power of sport in social unity.


'It is very important to encourage the youth in their activities and this could not be possible without our energetic Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Mohammed Ali Goni, who organized The Ramadam Tournament in Wau. Recreation is refreshing for the population. Sports builds cohesion and Youth find meaning to their lives', said Governor Cleot Rial.
