In a letter published earlier this week, President Kiir has extended a congratulatory message to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his re-election as Ugandan President.
Kiir described Museveni's victory as 'a testament of trust that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has earned from Ugandans', and a 'sign of their appreciation' of Museveni's 34 year rule in the country.
Sent from Kiir's office in Juba, the letter noted that Uganda had remained a 'key regional partner' for South Sudan, and that together 'we all look forward to worthing with you on addressing common challenges'.
Kiir's congratulations to Museveni comes amidst allegations of electoral irregularities, violence and intimidation from the incumbent President.
Earlier this week, opposition candidate Bobi Wine was placed under de facto house arrest by Uganda security services. His campaign, aimed at 'toppling a dictator', has hinted it will reject the results.
