President Salva Kiir has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, this afternoon ahead of a series of working meetings with President Cyril Ramaphosa this week.

President Kiir was accompanied by the Minister of Presidential Affairs Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Beatrice Khamisa Wani. The group were received at Tambo International Airport by South African Minister of International Relations Dr Naledi Pandor.

It is hoped that Kiir's visit to South Africa will build relations between the two nations, as they discuss a number of areas of mutual interest including regional stability and the implementation of the R-ARCSS.

South Africa has historic links with South Sudan, having been quick to establish relations in 2011. Shortly after independence, the two nations signed an MoU on General Cooperation and proposed agreements in areas such as trade and economic cooperation, transport, agriculture and culture.
