Plane crash kills 10 in Jonglei state: President responds

10 passengers were killed as an aircraft registered to local operator South Supreme Airlines has crashed in Uror county, Jonglei state, yesterday March 2nd.

In a statement released by his office, President Kiir extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the crash and immediately suspended South Supreme's operating license.

'My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and all South Sudanese affected by this heartbreaking accident. The entire company stands in solidarity with you at this moment of tragedy', Kiir wrote.

Wreckage of the aircraft, which crashed minutes after touching down at Uror county airstrip.

The measures carried out against the airline were done with the view of assessing the airworthiness of the carrier's remaining aircraft, whilst also reassuring citizens as to the safety of the country's domestic air network.

In a press document released by the South Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority and seen by the South Sudan Friendship Press, the youngest victim was 9 years old and the oldest 37. With the exception of the Kenyan pilot, all fatalities were South Sudanese citizens.
