Earlier this week, Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal Tong Akeen Ngor commemorated the inauguration Chief of Defence Santino Deng Wol at a ceremony organised by the Chimal community in Udhum payam, Deng Wol's home village.
The event was attended by a number of national and state government officials, as well as local authorities from payam and county levels.
Governor Tong Akeen praised President Kiir for appointing Deng Wol, describing the new Defence Chief as 'a disciplined and well experience officer' with extensive experience with SPLA forces during the liberation struggle.
Originally from Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Santiago Deng Wol has occupied a number of senior posts in the South Sudanese military since 2007. Prior to his appointment as Chief of Defence, he was Assistant Chief of Defence for Administration, Finance and Personnel.
The Governor also pledged his full support to the South Sudan People's Defence Forces, urging them to focus on uniting, organising and maintaining the peaceful coexistence of peoples nationwide.
Emphasising peace, Tong Akeen made reference to the recent flare up of localised conflict in Northern Bahr el Ghazal and underscored his commitment to resolving it.
Concluding his speech at the inauguration, the Governor called for all the people to start farming as the rainy season begins, encouraging every household to at least cultivate two acres and alleviate food insecurity in the State.
