Nile Petroleum have announced the completion of a new oil service rig at the Paloch oilfield in Upper Nile state.
The new rig is due to be unveiled in a formal ceremony next week, which will see one of South Sudan's first domestically built and operated oil service rigs enter service.
Whilst not a well in itself, the service rig is a mobile platform loaded with oil industry service equipment. It can be driven long distances across oil fields to service wells. This makes it ideal for areas suffering from poor repair infrastructure such as Paloch.
Nilepet have praised the engineers working on the project and said that they hope the service rig 'will positively contribute to economic reform'. Most importantly, Nilepet noted that the opening of the service rig will shift South Sudan's oil production way from dependence on foreign infrastructure, boosting domestic productivity.
The company have recently begun work on a number of new infrastructural projects in South Sudan's oil producing regions, including a road network system in Bentiu.
