An open letter to President Kiir sent by the South Sudan Anti-Corruption Forum (SSACF) has named at least 35 employees of Nilepet allegedly related to the company's Managing Director, Bol Ring Muorwel.
Titled 'Updated List of the Relatives of Nile Petroleum Corporation Company Limited (Nilepet) Managing Director Bol Ring Muorwel, whom he recently recruited into state oil firm', the letter accuses Muorwel of corruption and financial embezzlement.
'The leadership of South Sudan Anti Corruption Forum is grateful to submit into your esteemed office, the names of the relatives to Nilepet M.D Bol Ring whom he ( Bol) employed in the Nilepet', the letter begins.
'This list serves as an evident for the turning of our national company into a clan enterprise by the Managing Director Eng. Bol Ring Muorwel.'
'The leadership of South Sudan Anti Corruption Forum regrets the suffering and economic sanctions imposed on the families of innocent South Sudanese whose sons and daughters were innocently removed from various assignments in Nilepet and other oil companies by Bol Ring Muorwel and replaced them with his own blood relatives as attached below', it continues.
The SSACF has condemned nepotism and corruption, and has called on the government to investigate Nilepet's payroll.
'The turning of Nile Petroleum Corporation Company Limited from national company into family company ( Padhieu pet) by the managing director Managing Bol Ring is a crime that can sentence him to life imprisonment', the SSACF claim.
35 employees are named in the letter, with their positions and age attached.
Accusations of nepotism are not the only challenge currently facing Nilepet. Last week, representatives of the Ruweng community criticised Muorwel for annexing and renaming the local oil refinery, claiming it to be a violation of the territorial integrity of the Ruweng people.
