Juba
The new British ambassador to South Sudan, Jonny Baxter, has formally presented his credentials to President Kiir in a ceremony in Juba earlier today.
Replacing former ambassador Chris Trott, Baxter has now formally taken up his position as Britain's representative in Juba.
Having previously served as the Deputy Director of Finance and Performance at the British Foreign Office following service in Sudan, Iraq and Guyana, Baxter has said he is 'delighted to have presented my credentials today to H.E. the President, and to formally take up my role as British Ambassador to the world’s youngest country'.
Britain has remained one of South Sudan's largest aid partners following the R-ARCSS, contributing more than £52mil since 2017. The UK has also given 300 troops to the UN mission in the country, serving alongside peacekeepers.
