President Salva Kiir met with Vice-President Dr Riek Machar earlier this week, for discussions surrounding the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
Speaking to press, the Vice-President's communications secretary reported that talks focused mainly on the establishment of state assemblies, the reconstitution of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) and graduation of the country's Necessary Unified Forces (NUF).
The meeting comes after mounting criticisms of the delays in implementing a number of key aspects of the R-ARCSS. In particular, a number of commentators have noted that all government positions are yet to be allocated nearly a year after the signing of the original power sharing agreement.
The pair also discussed the allocation of national commissioner positions, in the hope of rectifying obstacles to the formation of the government. It was agreed that this remaining issue is to be resolved later this week.
Following the meeting, both parties reiterated their commitment to implementing the R-ARCSS in both letter and spirit.
