Kiir names new deputy governors

Juba

In a further step towards the completion of the R-ARCSS, President Kiir has finalised the appointment of three new deputy governors for Warrap, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Central Equatoria states, respectively.

In a statement released on SSBC-TV last night, Kiir revealed Ayen Mayor Makuei, Tong Lual Ayak, and Sarah Nene Redento were to be appointed deputy governors for Warrap, Northern Bahr el Ghazal and Central Equatoria states respectively.

All three candidates are from other political parties, not the SPLM(IO).

Despite the recent appointments, Upper Nile State remains without a governor. Last month, Vice-President Dr. Riek Machar nominated Gen. James Olony to the position. The nomination garnered significant controversy, as President Kiir and a number of SPLM figures claimed Olony was not even a resident of South Sudan at the time.

The delays in gubernatorial appointments has come to define the slowness with which the R-ARCSS has been implemented over the past year, with many figures in Upper Nile State in particular calling for a rapid implementation of order.
