Having returned to South Sudan from a 3 day working visit to South Africa earlier this week, President Kiir has described the trip as 'fruitful' and productive.
The South Sudanese delegation landed in Johannesburg on Thursday. Visiting officials included the Minister of Presidential Affairs Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Beatrice Khamisa Wani and the Executive Director in the Office of the President, James Deng Wal
President Kiir met with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday evening, discussing a range of issues including the progress of R-ARCSS' implementation and the strengthening of relations and ties between the two nations.
The leaders also reportedly noted the potential cooperation opportunities between South Sudan and South Africa, agreeing to work to develop partnerships in the trade and investment sectors.
Speaking to press after the event, Dr Barnaba Marial said that with peace looking to hold in South Sudan, President Kiir invited South Africans to conduct meaningful investment and business in the country.
South Africa has historic links with South Sudan, having been quick to establish relations in 2011. Shortly after independence, the two nations signed an MoU on General Cooperation and proposed agreements in areas such as trade and economic cooperation, transport, agriculture and culture.
