In a conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nairobi, members of the Kenyan government were briefed as to the progress made during the talks at Naivasha earlier this week.
Hosted by the Community of Sant’Egido in coordination with the government of Kenya, recent negotiations between the South Sudanese government and the South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) have produced a 15 point Declaration of Principles. This represents one of the most significant advances in the country's opposition politics since the Rome Declaration of March 2020.
At the conference in Nairobi, a number of speakers commented on the progress of this week's talks and the potential for peace created by the agreed Declaration of Principles.
Speeches were delivered by Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, the head of South Sudan's government delegation (RTGoNU), and Rachael Omamo, Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Affairs and International Trade.
The meeting was also attended by members of the SSOMA, including Pagan Amum, the head of Real SPLM and member of SSOMA, who was also a signatory of the Declaration of Principles.
