In a press statement seen by the South Sudan Friendship Press, the Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO) has warned citizens that there will be widespread electricity shortages on Tuesday. According to the company, these shortages are set to be indefinite.

We regret to inform all our valued customers that we are forced to halt electricity supplies from the morning of Tuesday January 12, 2021, until further notice’, the company said.

JEDCO added that the Government had not provided the required foreign currency to make payments to the grid supplier. In a letter obtained by the South Sudan Friendship Press, JEDCO have suggested this amounts to $2mil USD.

The letter received by JEDCO from Ezra Group concerning the lack of payment.

At present, Juba’s electricity is supplied by Ezra Construction and Development Group via JEDCO.

The statement did mention that the JEDCO is working urgently with stakeholders to resolve the issue and resume normal service.

“The Electricity Corporation Authority has humbly apologised for the service interruption, and appeal for your patience.”
