In a recent visit by the Governor of Western Equatoria Alfred Futiyo Karaba, residents of Nzara County raised concerns about the escalation of cattle disputes in and around Nzara town.

The Nzara community claim that Ambororo nomads are destroying crops in the area, making it difficult and dangerous for local farmers to access their land.

Such concerns come amidst a national increase in agricultural violence. Most recently focused in Upper Nile State, which saw local civic activists and a General killed, episodes of violence have spread across South Sudan's agricultural hotspots.

With regards to Nzara, Governor Futiyo assured the community that the state government had plans to tackle the Ambororo nomads. He requested traders in Nzara County cease business with the Ambororo.

Outside Western Equatoria, President Kiir has made plans to form a conference in Malakal, Upper Nile State, to address agricultural instability.
