Egyptian Agricultural Minister plans Juba visit

Juba

The South Sudanese government has published preliminary plans outlining the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture's visit to Juba next week.

Arriving on Monday morning, Minister Marzouq El-Qosair will spend 4 days touring many of South Sudan's agricultural sites, including cattle camps and veterinary laboratories. El-Qosair will also meet a number of key political figures.

It is hoped the meeting will strengthen agricultural cooperation between the two nations, as the Minister is due to spend time in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state as well as Juba.

Egypt and South Sudan maintain strong ties in the agricultural sector, having closely cooperated on plans to construct an irrigation canal in Jonglei along with a number of Nile dam projects.

As peace has returned to South Sudan, Egypt has remained one of the most promising tentative investors in the country's agricultural sector.

Speaking to press last year, Ahmed Mounir Ezz El-Din, Chairperson of the Egyptian Business Association's China Committee, said that South Sudan stood as one of the region's most promising opportunities for agricultural investment.
