Central Equatoria introduces waste disposal reform

Juba

In a gubernatorial order published yesterday, Central Equatoria Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony Wani has introduced a comprehensive set of state laws addressing waste disposal.

Described as an order 'for enforcement of waste collection and disposal', the decree features a number of rules to tackle the growing issue of flytipping and public littering in Central Equatoria.

From yesterday, all 'unnecessary waster litter and disposal' on streets and in public, private, NGO or industrial areas will be 'declared as a crime against Public and Environmental Health in Central Equatoria'.

In addition, Saturdays have been earmarked as waste collection days in the state.

According to the decree, anyone found breaking the new rules will be subject to a number of punishments. Despite this, the extent to which they will be enforced across the state remains unclear.
