Cattle violence intensifies in Lakes state

Rumbek

Fresh clashes between herders has led to the deaths of at least 23 people in Lakes state, authorities have told press.

Speaking to journalists earlier this week, incoming Member of Parliament for Rumbek East Dharuai Mabor Teny said the situation in the state had intensified in recent weeks with locals living in fear of agricultural violence.

Mabor's statement comes after a number of residents were killed in fighting around Cueibet county yesterday. Violence was reportedly triggered following a dispute over a stolen bull, which triggered clashes in two areas of Pagor payam.

He has called on the national government to provide more comprehensive security measures in response to the deadly attacks across the State.

The Minister of Information in Lakes state, William Koji, has already confirmed that security forces were being mobilised to restore peace in the Cueibet area.
