In a letter published on the occasion of his birthday, Catholic Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala has urged the youth of South Sudan to stand up and contribute positively towards the country's development.
Written under the theme 'arise and shine', Bishop Kussala used his letter to encourage stakeholders across the country to empower and enable young people for the betterment of the nation's future.
'Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies. I therefore commit myself in all my dealings to do what can make you RISE AND SHINE! I also beg all parents, families, our leaders at different quarters and adults everywhere in South Sudan to do everything possible to enable the South Sudanese youth to enjoy lives of safety, dignity and opportunity and contribute to the fullest of their great potential.', Bishop Kussala wrote.
Kussala also emphasised the need for collaboration between generations, noting the importance of the young learning from the old and vice versa.
'When educating the minds of our youth, we must not forget to educate their hearts.'
The Bishop is no stranger to public statements, having released a letter earlier this year in response to the government's decision to restrict religious services.
'I would urge everyone in our churches, Mosques, State and entire nation to pray for those on the front line in our public services...There is hope. As Christians, we have deeper hope in God that comforts us beyond fear itself' were Bishop Barani's closing words.
