UNESCO and the FAO have partnered with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Animal Resources to provide 28 cattle camps in 8 counties with educational equipment.
Supported by Norwegian Peoples Aid (NPA) and the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR), the scheme forms part of a wider attempt to help improve the livelihoods of agricultural communities across South Sudan.
The cattle camps receiving the equipment are spread evenly across the country, including Rumbek Center, Rumbek East, Rumbek North, Cuebuet, Yirol East, Yirol West, Awerial and Terekeka County.
The overall objective of the project is to enhance local food security and greater livelihood resilience of pastoral communities.
The program's sponsors hope this will be achieved through a two-tier approach, combining institutional support and community level empowerment to mitigate and prevent crisis and deliver integrated pastoral services.
